ABSTRACT SUBMISSION TO CDSM 2008 ARE NOW CLOSED
The Congress Organising Committee invited abstract submissions for oral and poster papers
that align with the Congress session themes:
- The Workplace – an untapped opportunity
- The needs of indigenous people and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
- The role and impact of primary care in optimizing chronic disease self-management support
- Innovations in chronic disease self-management intervention delivery
- Evidence of the effectiveness of self-management interventions across diseases and settings
- Innovations at the Workplace, Hospital, Community, Primary Care and Family interface
- Chronic disease self-management for young people
- The introduction of innovations – making chronic disease self-management interventions sustainable.

GENERAL GUIDELINES, REQUIREMENTS AND PROCESS
- Abstract submissions will only be accepted via this website www.cdsm2008.com Once the abstract is uploaded via the website a confirmation will be sent by email.
- Abstracts must be submitted in English. They must be sufficiently informative to allow the Program sub-committee to extract the key message from the proposed paper and evaluate suitability for inclusion in the Congress program. The Program sub-committee will also consider originality, clarity and merit in reaching a decision regarding suitability for inclusion. There are limited slots available for offered papers, so submission of an abstract does not guarantee acceptance.
- Required content of Abstract:
- Authors name(s) and affiliation(s)
- Email contact address for the corresponding author (taken to be the author submitting the abstract, unless otherwise indicated)
- Title of paper
- Body of Abstract (maximum 350 words), with the following headings 1. Background, 2. Aims, 3. Methods, 4. Results and 5. Implications for Practice and/or Policy (where relevant). Figures will not be accepted. Tables should be avoided.
- Indicate first and second preference for Congress Theme (see list of the 8 themes above)
- Indicate preference for presentation as either poster or oral paper.
- Submissions must be received by Monday 28th July 2008. Abstracts received after the closing date will not be accepted.
- The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring the co-authors agree with and are aware of the content before submitting the abstract.
- Responsibility for the accuracy of abstract rests with the corresponding author.
- Responsibility for checking any patent, IP or copyright issues associated with work included in the abstract rests with the corresponding author.
- Abstracts will be reviewed by the Program sub-committee, and a decision made as to whether the abstract will be included in the Congress program or not. The committee’s decision is final.
- Corresponding authors will receive notification of the result of this via email by Monday 1st September 2008. Please do not contact the secretariat office prior to this date for results.
- The Program sub-committee cannot guarantee that author preferences for poster or oral presentation can be granted. This will depend on the number and content of abstracts received relative to the conference program plan.
- At least one author of an accepted paper must register for and attend the 2008 Conference to present the paper, either in poster or oral form.
- All papers will be peer-reviewed.
- Please familiarise yourself with all important deadlines for submissions.
- Further instructions on presentation requirements will be provided in due course, via the 2008 International Congress web site.
GLOSSARY OF TERMS
- Oral Papers - These are brief oral presentations scheduled in concurrent sessions throughout the Congress organised as particular streams/themes. Oral papers will be no longer than 15 minutes in length inclusive of question and answer.
- Posters – Visual presentations of research projects for display Poster sessions can be scheduled into the main program whereby authors are available to discuss their work.
